Installing a Schaller Megaswitch 'E' in a Stratocaster Mod
The goal of this mod is to give your guitar a wider tonal range by swopping out a standard 5-way strat switch with an E-megaswitch (made by schaller). The standard 5-way strat selector switch will select: position 1 - neck pickup, position 2 - neck/middle pickup, position 3 - middle pickup, position 4 - middle/bridge pickup, position 5 - bridge pickup. The E-megaswitch when used with a strat (or any three pickup guitar) produces the same results as a standard 5-way switch in positions 1, 2, 4 and 5. With the E-megaswitch position 3 is no longer selecting the middle pickup but instead selects the neck and bridge pickup together in parallel. the results of this guitar mod give your strat a fatter sound from the third position of the switch.
For 3 Single Coil Guitars:
Lug 1 - middle pickup hot wire
Lug 2 - neck pickup hot wire
Lug 3 - output to volume pot
Lug 4 - empty
Lug 5 - empty
Lug 6 - solder jumper to 7
Lug 7 - bridge pickup hot wire
The Neck/Bridge Pickup in Series Link To Mp3
This is a clip of the neck and bridge pickup in series which is accessed by the neck-most position of the switch.
The Neck/Bridge Pickup in Parallel Link To Mp3
This is a clip of the neck and bridge pickup in parallel which is accessed by the 2nd-to-most bridge position of the switch.
Forewarnings and General Info...
Because the E-Megaswitch does not allow the middle pickup to be used by itself, you may want a tone control for the neck and bridge pickups. To do this, wire the lower tone pots lead to lug 7.
